Paradise Scholarship Foundation History

The Paradise Scholarship Foundation traces its roots back to 1956 as a community effort coordinated by different ridge clubs and service organizations. The varied groups wanted to help Paradise High School students with scholarships so they pooled their resources and formed the Paradise Scholarship Committee.

Later the committee became the Paradise Scholarship Association, with memberships offered to individuals, businesses and organizations. The association became a foundation in 1990, reflecting that the scholarships are awarded only from the income from the investments earned through the gifts and endowments.

In the almost 50 years of its existence, the Paradise Scholarship Foundation has helped hundreds of ridge graduates, providing thousands of dollars in scholarships each year. Graduates of the Class of 2005 at Paradise High School and Ridgeview High School received more than $30,000 in scholarships.

While the majority of the foundation’s support comes from individual and organizational memberships, the Paradise Scholarship Foundation was fortunate to receive generous estate bequests in the 1990's of more than $100,000 from two ridge residents, Paul Combs and Elizabeth Nix. This enabled the foundation to establish two named, four-year renewable scholarships for two Paradise High School graduates each year.
